EAST EUROPEAN HEART VALVE POSTGRADUATE COURSE

Preliminary program of the east european heart valve postgraduate course

The teleconference (live transmission from a surgery with the possibility of bilateral on line direct communication between surgeon and audience) shall constitute the main part of our program.

– Planned procedures: Heart valve (aortic, mitral & tricuspid) replacement by xenograft, allograft and pulmonary autograft – Ross´ procedure. Aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve conserving / repair techniques.

– Discussion topics: Heart valve anatomy and physiology, as well as the basic research observations. Peculiarities of echocardiography and other invasive and noninvasive diagnostic and monitoring procedures will be confronted with particular surgical techniques. Indication and implantation techniques of controversial heart valve replacement methods like pulmonary autograft, aortic allograft, and commercial stentless xenograft prostheses will be evaluated. Special attention would be paid to the issue of remodelation versus reimplantation in aortic valve conserving operations as well as to mitral / tricuspid valve repair techniques. Short-term results evaluation & follow-up principles, and especially long-term results, including the patients´ quality of life and current randomized studies results will be submitted for discussion.

Half- day “Hands On” Workshop “Cardiovascular Tissue Banking” would introduce the participants into the field (provided more than 5 participants would register).
